The Jalon Valley |
The Jalon Valley is situated in one of Spain’s most scenic areas just set back from the coast. This fertile valley is amass with almond trees and citrus groves interspersed with vineyards surrounded by stunning mountain scenery which changes with each season. In early February, the whole valley is a blanket of pink and white blooms from the almond blossom. Almost endlessly the citrus groves are laden with oranges and lemons whilst towards the end of the summer, the vineyards are heavy with grapes ready for picking. Together with the rich red soil and the bright blue sky, the whole region is always alive with colour.Jalon is the main village/town of the valley. It derives its name from the Jalon River flowing through the valley to the edge of the town. The Old Square with its fountain is dominated by the famous beautiful blue-domed Jalon Church. Old narrow streets radiate from the Square which bustle on a Tuesday, Market day. Saturday mornings also see a busy market held along the river bank under shade of the eucalyptus trees. A great place to explore! Be sure too to enjoy the local fiestas. The streets are beautifully decorated and lined with flowers and banners. Not to be missed!
